Metro East Inferno Female Hockey Association

2021 - 2022 Registration Information

Please read ALL information CAREFULLY as there have been changes made from previous seasons.

Registration for the upcoming season has been delayed due to many changes in late July, with the implementation of the new Hockey Canada Registry 3.0, a new Nova Scotia Female Hockey League website and a new structure for female hockey season.  You can see the new female regulations HERE.  You can find information about creating your new HCR 3.0 account at the bottom of this page.

Please note new female hockey evaluation (tryout) policy: "1.0 Regulation Female players choosing to play female hockey must attend the female tryout process from the beginning and will not be permitted to be part of both a minor tryout process and female tryout process at the same time. Exception U18 AAA Major - Female players who try out for U18 AAA Major Female will be permitted to be part of the Association female tryout process."

Recreational (REC) 'C' Category Female Hockey versus Representative (REP) 'AAA'/'AA'/'A' Female Hockey:

The HNS Female Council has introduced some changes for the upcoming 2021 - 2022 season.  These changes reflect the lower overall cost, less travel and lower time commitment of recreational (REC) 'C' hockey versus representative (REP) 'AAA' U13/U15 & 'AA' U11 - U18 & 'A' U11/U18 hockey.  Representative (REP) female hockey will include teams from around the province and as such, require a bigger commitment of time and money, as representative teams tend to have higher overall budgets to cover their higher operating costs.

For MEIFHA players, if a player played 'A' last season (or 'B' U11) and is assigned to a 'C' team this season, (or opts to play 'C'),  there will be very little change.  There may be 4-6 teams in regular season play rather than 8-10 teams but details on the exact make-up of the division is under development as all Female Associations adapt to the recent restructuring.  We will update our membership as further details emerge.  Please note: MEIFHA will not offer recreational 'C' hockey at U18, this season.

MEIFHA plans on offering the following teams this year:
  • U9 - Intermediate & Developing
  • U11 - REP 'AA' & 'A' - REC 'C'
  • U13 - REP 'AAA' & AA' - REC 'C'
  • U15 - REP 'AAA' & 'AA' - REC 'C'
  • U18 - REP 'AA' & 'A'

What we do know:  Play has been promised as 'more locally based' to reduce travel in the recreational (REC) 'C' division.  This means less commitment and cost for players and families.  There will also be a return to 50 minute games (as opposed to 80 minute games) at the recreational (REC) 'C' level which will decrease the financial burden on teams.  Representative (REP) teams will continue to be responsible for the cost of the extra minutes of ice and official time, per 80 minute game.

As with anything new, this will take some time to adjust to the processes involved, but HNS agrees that this will undoubtedly be good for female hockey in the province.  We will move forward and adapt to these changes to create an entirely positive experience for your daughter.

Please note:  ALL REP Evaluation and Preseason Development Session fees MUST be added to your original registration as NO CHANGES WILL BE ACCOMMODATED after the deadline.  Preseason Development Session Registration closes September 1st, or earlier if available spaces fill.  ALL Registration closes September 15th, 2021.  Late registrants may contact meifha.registrar@gmail.com to be added to wait-lists.

***An important note on Evaluations & Balancing:

'AAA' & 'AA' & 'A' Representative (REP) Player Evaluations may consist of skills session(s)/small area game(s)/intrasquad game(s)/practice(s) to determine 'AAA' & 'AA'  & 'A' REP team placement.  Please note the level of REP play differs for each age group.  Take note which REP teams are available for your player, referring to the chart above.  Players may choose not to participate in the REP evaluation process and be placed directly onto a recreational 'C' (REC) team, but may still be required to complete Balancing depending on the number of MEIFHA teams in any given season.  Please note:  For U18, players may choose to be placed directly on a REP 'A' team as MEIFHA will not host a REC 'C' team this season.

Balancing is the process whereby players are evaluated to enable all teams within the same division be given equal opportunity to compete. It may consist of practice(s) and/or intrasquad game(s).  Balancing is essential to ensure all players have similar experiences throughout the season and will occur at any level with sufficient numbers to warrant multiple teams within a division in our association.  MEIFHA have traditionally had more than one team at the recreational (REC) 'C'   level (formerly 'A' or 'B' U11), and at the U18 'A' level.

PLEASE TAKE SPECIAL NOTE:  ALL PLAYERS CHOOSING TO BE EVALUATED FOR Representative (REP) 'AAA' & 'AA'  & 'A' (U11) hockey, MUST PAY THE ADDITIONAL FEE ($150) DURING REGISTRATION.  This CANNOT be changed later.

Special Note for U18 'AAA' Hopefuls

If you are competing for a spot in the Maritime Major Female Hockey League (MMFHL) MEIFHA requests that you contact our registrar Casha Cruickshank at registrar@metroeastinferno.ca to announce your 'AAA' bid and to confirm your possible participation in the MEIFHA REP Evaluation process, no later than September 1st, 2021.  Once the U18 'AAA' Team Selection Process has been completed, you must register with MEIFHA in order to proceed to MEIFHA REP Evaluations forU18 'AA.'.  Players registering after Septemvber 1st, due to late release from the 'AAA' process should contact vpadmin@metroeastinferno.ca before registering, if they wish to join Preseason Development Sessions.  This can only be accommodated if space permits.  The deadline for registration is September 15th, 2021.
